Kansa came about in the bronze age in India, where they were able to get temperatures high enough to forge copper and tin. Kansa (the metal used in Kansa wands) is called the “bell metal” because bells and Tibetan gongs are made from this same material. What is so good about this metal is its ability to balance ph. Back in the day, people ate their meals on a Kansa plate to help make the digestion easier and reduce the acid content in the food.
They drank their water from Kansa cups because it was almost like a water filtration system, it would remove the acid content from the water. Eventually, they found incredible health benefits by applying the metal directly to the skin as well.
What is a Kansa wand?
A kansa wand is a dome-shaped massaging tool that is designed to stimulate blood circulation. The real magic comes from the metal it is made of, kansa, which is a combination of copper and tin. Kansa (or bell metal) is revered in Ayurvedic texts, as it promotes lymphatic drainage and removes built up toxins. Using the kansa wand to massage your skin helps to make the skin more alkaline and making it less susceptible to acne and inflammation.
Why does it work on your skin?
Because of the metal’s alkaline properties, massaging your skin with a kansa wand or bowl will help balance your skin’s ph. Skin that is high in acid content, or just general imbalance, can cause sensitivity, premature aging, wrinkles, inflammation, or acne; using a Kansa wand can keep those issues at bay. Also massaging the skin with the Kansa wand helps to remove built-up toxins in the lymph nodes, by draining them out. We know that physical massage and lymphatic drainage brings fresh oxygen to the skin, which leaves us with that beautiful natural glow we love.
How does it work?
The action of rolling leads to increased circulation, pumps more oxygen into the blood, and aids lymphatic drainage. Increased blood flow to enhance skin glow and regular use will lead to more brightness, clarity, and a glowing complexion. Using the wand can improve facial muscle tone, carving out the cheekbones and jawline when working deeper into the muscular tissue on the cheeks. Your skin feels taut and rejuvenated.
Something you might notice but shouldn’t worry about is greying. Don’t be alarmed if you massage with the Kansa wand and you see a greyness appear on the skin, this means the Kansa is working! The grey is a chemical reaction between the metal and the acid content on the skin as it heals.
Another important thing to note is to beware of fakes. Just like any tool, there is a huge variance in quality. Kansa is pure. It has zero lead content. Any Kansa with zinc or metals other than copper and tin are not genuine, and you should not use them as they may have lead content.
At the Conscious Woman, we only use Kansa wands and bowls made of teak wood and Kansa metal, a mix of copper and tin. Ancient wisdom claims this metal to be more healing than gold or silver and helps increase your skin’s ability to heal. The Kansa wand is also used to massage the marma or “energy points” on your body.
